“The fear will never go away as long as I grow.”
Confidence can be a fragile thing, even for successful people.
Possibly the most fundamental step in building confidence is to open up your eyes to the reality of change and to accept what is in reality quite a daunting challenge – taking responsibility for yourself and your own future. This is about taking a grip on your own direction in life and not drifting aimlessly in a sea of unpredictable currents.
This will lead to a curiosity about your limits, testing and challenging your comfort zones to see that the potential for growth is phenomenal. Then, lift your energy levels. When all three of these steps are combined, you have a formula for action and without that then nothing will be achieved.
A word about comfort zones. Comfort zones are like open prisons. They set the limits and constrain our choices. If you never break out of them, you will never know what your potential really is.
But comfort zones are just that – comfortable. It can take great courage to move out from them. In her list of five truths about fear, Susan Jeffers (1987) said that:
If you set goals beyond your current level of confidence, then your ability to grow is dramatically enhanced, leading you closer to your full potential.
So what are your current comfort zones? What limits are they constraining you to? What can you possibly do to break free from these?
And….how are your comfort zones putting limits on those people that follow you?
