How many new year resolutions have you made for 2013?
By now, the question may be better put like this: how many new year resolutions have you made for 2013…that you have stuck with?
Like most people at this time of year, I set off with all good intention to improve my life in some way. Yet many of the aims I have seem to fall by the wayside very early on. Why is this?
The resolutions we set at the start of the year are always freely made, yet something just doesn’t quite stick. Perhaps the deeper motivation isn’t really there? Or the’re declared to the world when we are caught up with festive cheer and life simply takes over when we get back to everyday life? Or maybe the old habits are simply so strong we slip back into ‘automatic’ behaviour before we have had the chance to affect the changes we desired?
If you’re finding it difficult to maintain your resolutions, ask yourself these three simple questions:

  • Are you READY?
Are you in the right frame of mind to start the changes needed? Are you emotionally equipped at this time?
  • Are you WILLING?
Are you prepared to do what it takes to ditch the old for the new? What is your motivation to make these changes at this time?
  • Are you ABLE?
Do you have the necessary skills and resources to maintain the changes? Do you have the level of competence needed?
Maybe this is something you’d like to explore further? If so, our friends at Whatever Life Throws are holding a goal setting day on the 27th of January in London. It’s FREE and it promises to be great fun – you may even find yourself breaking through a solid wooden board! Read More…
