To strive ahead and grow as a leader, it’s always a good idea to become aware of where you are now.
So, how well do you know yourself?
For example, why do you do the job you do?
Why do you get on really well with some people and find others hard work?
What is your preferred style in times of conflict?
Everyone likes to do the things that they are good at. However, when we become aware of the things we are not so good at, it can be quite a different story!
So, are you ready to turn your attention to those things you’re not so good at?
Yes? Good, then let’s get started.
First, grab a piece of paper or your favourite notebook.
Then, write out the top three weaknesses you have.
Yes, I’ve called them weaknesses, as ‘development areas’ always seems to be dancing around the houses – call a spade a spade, I say!
Next, ask yourself this:
“If I improved these areas / skills would I have a lot more chance of success in all that I do?”
For some, these could be communication skills, appearance, networking, listening etc.
Now focus on what you need to do in order to improve each area.
For each improvement, write out:
- How each improvement would increase your confidence?
- How it will make you feel?
- What do you need to do to make it happen?
- Who can help you?
- When will you start?
